Financial Policies and Application Instructions

Christian Heritage School is committed to providing educational opportunities to qualified students regardless of a family’s ability to pay the full cost of tuition. To assure that families who are requesting financial aid are evaluated objectively, applicants must complete the Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS.)

These are general guidelines concerning completion of financial aid applications, duties of financial aid applicants and distribution of financial aid awards.   Exceptions to these policies will be considered by the Financial Aid Committee and CHS Board of Trustees when unusual extenuating circumstances warrant individual exceptional decisions.  Financial aid is offered based on financial need for full-time students only.

All CHS financial aid is offered solely on demonstrated need in compliance with the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) regulations.  To ensure compliance, the GHSA may require CHS to provide financial aid information for those students who compete in GHSA sanctioned activities such as athletics, drama and music.

Christian Heritage School uses School and Student Services (SSS) sponsored by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) to process financial aid applications.  Based on the financial information provided in the Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS), SSS analyzes your information which is a starting point to help us make fair and objective financial aid decisions based on ALL of the financial information we receive.

Financial Aid Policies:

Financial aid is not automatically renewable.  Each family must reapply for financial aid each year.

In order to be considered for financial aid for the next year, families must not have a delinquent balance.

Students must be in good standing with CHS, not on academic or behavioral probation, at the time of applying for financial aid.

The financial aid process will open on November 6, 2017 for the 2018/2019 school year.

To receive priority consideration, current families must apply for financial aid by February 5, 2018.  Please note that you will need to include your 2017 tax return with your financial aid application package. Therefore, early tax return preparation is necessary.  It will be each family’s responsibility to see that applications are sent in at the proper time.

Families should complete and submit the Parent’s Financial Statement on line with School and Student Services, sss.nais.org.  Our school code is 2419.  There is a non-refundable fee of $42 for this service.  If you should require assistance completing the application you may contact Teri Ward at 706-277-1198, or [email protected] to schedule an appointment.

In addition to the Parent’s Financial Statement, the following additional documents should be uploaded  to School and Student Services for completion of the Parent’s Financial Statement:

Completed, signed and filed 2017 IRS Form 1040, including all related schedules filed with the form.  2016 IRS Form 1040 will be accepted if your 2017 form is not yet available. However, to receive priority consideration, your 2017 Form is necessary.  Also, include S Corporation Income Tax Returns (Form 1120S) or Partnership Income Tax Returns (Form 1065), if applicable.

All 2017 Forms W-2 and 1099’s for all parents and children earning income during the year.  If you have not received your 2015 Forms W-2, please submit a copy of your year-end pay stub showing cumulative earnings for the year.

The IRS Form 4506T-EZ signed, but not dated.  Do not fill out the top of the form or send a check for the listed fee.  The form can be found at www.irs.gov.

If either parent is self-employed, please fill out the SSS Business and Farm Statement and include along with your business tax return.  Note that the SSS Business and Farm Statement is an SSS form within your application.

Families must be willing to submit to an interview with the Financial Aid Committee if requested by the committee.  The committee may also request additional information regarding employment, recreation, vehicles, etc.

Families, who are enrolled at CHS, who are not currently receiving financial aid, and who have experienced unexpected financial difficulties may apply for financial assistance.  CHS may respond to these families on a temporary basis depending on the circumstances and the availability of financial aid funds.

New students who qualify for need-based financial aid and who transfer from a public school to CHS may have a portion of their financial aid funded through Faith First Georgia.  CHS is partnered with Faith First Georgia through the Georgia Private School Tax Credit Program/Student Scholarship Organization (SSO).  Parents do not apply directly for SSO grants; rather those who qualify will be notified and asked to complete the appropriate paperwork.  SSO funds are a component of a student’s calculated financial aid award and are not considered an additional award.

Financial offers to current families will be mailed the first full week of March.  A financial aid offer will not be considered or mailed if the family’s tuition account is not current.  Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

All financial aid offer acceptances should be returned to the school within two weeks (10 business days) from the date on the offer letter.  Should the offer not be returned to the school within this time frame, all monies will be returned to the financial aid fund for other families who are waiting.

Students must maintain good academic standing and demonstrate proper behavior at school (must not be on academic or behavioral probation).  In the event that a student on financial aid is placed on probation (academic or behavioral), all financial aid money will terminate effective immediately.  Students will not be eligible for financial aid during the term of probation or for the remainder of the school year.  Families will be eligible to re-apply for financial aid for the 2018/2019 school year if the student remains in good standing throughout the 2017/2018 school year.

Financial aid will not be available to families who choose to retain a child unless such retention is recommended by the school and approved by the Financial Aid Committee.  This restriction applies to the retention year only.

The Financial Aid Committee maintains strict confidentiality.  Families must respect the process in a similar manner and not communicate any information regarding financial aid offers.  Failure to do so will put the offer at risk.  CHS reserves the right to revoke any offers not kept in strict confidence by the family.

CHS reserves the right to request verification of any data submitted by families.  If the data is found to be inaccurate, CHS reserves the right to withdraw its financial aid offer effective immediately.
